SPF, which is short for Sender Policy Framework, is an e-mail security system, that is designed to verify if an email message was sent by an official server. Employing SPF protection for a particular domain name will stop the counterfeiting of email addresses made with the domain. In layman's terms: activating this attribute for a domain makes a particular record in the Domain Name System (DNS) that contains the IP addresses of the servers which are allowed to send emails from mail boxes under the domain. Once this record propagates worldwide, it exists on all DNS servers that route the Internet traffic. Whenever some email message is sent, the initial DNS server it goes through tests whether it originates from an official server. If it does, it is sent to the destination address, yet when it doesn't come from a server indexed in the SPF record for the domain, it is discarded. Thus nobody will be able to mask an e-mail address and make it look as if you are sending spam messages. This method is also referred to as email spoofing.

SPF Protection in Shared Hosting

If you host your domain names in a shared hosting account with us and we manage the emails for them, you will be able to enable SPF protection for all of them with a few clicks inside your Hepsia Control Panel. This service is available in its own section where you will be able to view which domains are already secured. For those that aren't, you will be able to activate the SPF protection solution and configure various things during this process - the hostnames of the mail servers that are allowed to send messages from your emails, the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of the servers, as well as to create a rule that emails can be sent only if your domains have our MX records. The last mentioned solution is the most secure one, but it can be used in the event that we handle the e-mail addresses for your domain names and you're not using some other e-mail provider. The new records will be activated within one day and nobody will be able to forge the FROM field in an e-mail by using your e-mail addresses.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia web hosting Control Panel, that is provided with our Linux semi-dedicated hosting packages, will provide you with an incredibly user-friendly interface to enable the SPF security service for any domain that you host inside your new account. A few clicks in the Emails section of Hepsia will be enough for that then you will only have to type in the hostname and the IP address of the mail server which will be allowed to send messages from your email addresses. When the email messages are managed by us and not by a different supplier, you are able to increase the security level even further and enable an option for all the outgoing e-mails to be sent only if your domain names use our MX records. This option will provide you with better control and it'll eliminate any chance of someone faking your e-mail addresses with the purpose of spamming or scamming people. It is not applicable if only your site is on our advanced cloud hosting platform, while your emails are handled by some other service provider. If you aren't sure what features to pick, our technical support team will assist you 24/7.
