Transferring an already registered domain name involves switching the company that provides the registration service, so after the transfer itself, you’ll have to manage things like renewal payments or DNS record modifications through the new registrar. The transfer procedure is standard with most Top-Level Domain extensions. Some country-code extensions are more specific and involve different procedures, but in the general case transferring a domain involves several necessary procedures and one of them is unlocking the domain name. The lock is a safety feature, which is being embraced by more and more domain name registry organizations. It’s a default feature supported by all generic Top-Level Domains. If a domain name is locked, it will not be possible to initiate a transfer procedure, so no one can even try to steal your domain. The domain lock can be removed only through the account where the domain name is registered and all new domains that support this functionality are locked by default when they are registered.

Registrar Lock in Shared Hosting

Locking and unlocking a domain registered through our company is unbelievably easy. This can be done through the Hepsia Control Panel, which comes with our Linux shared hosting packages, and will take literally two clicks. All your domain names will be displayed in alphabetical order in the Domain Manager section of the Control Panel and next to those whose extensions support the registrar lock option, you will notice a padlock-like logo. Click on it once and you’ll see the present status of the domain. Click for the second time and you’ll change its status. The update will take effect momentarily without the need for you or for us to do anything else for the status to be ‘refreshed’ on WHOIS lookup websites, so you can go ahead with the transfer straight away.

Registrar Lock in Semi-dedicated Hosting

In case you have registered a domain through us and you wish to transfer it, you can quickly unlock it via the same Hepsia Control Panel, which you use to administer your semi-dedicated server account. All domain registrations will be displayed in alphabetical order in your account and you will see a mini padlock icon on the right side of each domain there, provided that its extension supports the registrar lock feature. You can find out if the domain is locked or not by clicking on this icon and update the current status by clicking on it once again. You can then proceed and start the transfer straight away without the need to wait for the status to be changed on WHOIS lookup websites, as the change will take effect instantly without you or us having to do anything else.
