Whois Privacy Protection, occasionally also referred to as Privacy or Whois Privacy Protection, is a service that hides the authentic contact information of domain name registrants on WHOIS websites. Without such protection, the personal name, address and email of any domain name registrant will be publicly visible. Giving fake details upon registration or changing the authentic info subsequently will simply not work, as doing such a thing may result in the registrant losing his/her ownership of the domain name. The policies adopted by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), demand that the WHOIS info must be correct and up to date at all times. The Whois Privacy Protection service was launched by registrars as an answer to the growing concerns about potential identity fraud. If the service is active, the registrar’s contact info will show up instead of the domain registrant’s upon a WHOIS lookup. Most domain names support the Whois Privacy Protection service, even though there are certain country-code extensions that do not.

Whois Privacy Protection in Shared Hosting

If you order a shared hosting plan from us, you’ll be able to enable Whois Privacy Protection for any of your domain names on the condition that their extensions support this service. You can register or transfer a domain and add Whois Privacy Protection during the account activation procedure or you can activate the service for any of your domain names at any moment later via the Hepsia Control Panel. The procedure is remarkably easy – once you log in, you’ll need to go to the Registered Domains section where you will see a list of all the domain names that you’ve registered through our company. For each one of them you will notice an “Whois Privacy Protection” symbol, which will show you whether the service is active or not. By clicking on it, you can either Whois Privacy Protect the domain, or you can turn off the service if it is currently activated.

Whois Privacy Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Ordering Whois Privacy Protection for any domain name is extremely easy in case you’ve got a semi-dedicated server. As long as the domain name is registered through us, it will be listed in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel that is included with every semi-dedicated server plan. If a given generic or country-code domain supports Whois Privacy Protection, you’ll notice a mini logo next to that domain. To activate the Whois Privacy Protection service, you’ll have to click on it. In the same manner, you can also renew or disable the service. You can order Whois Privacy Protection for a domain name during the account activation process as well, but since the service is optional, we will give you the chance to add it to any of your domains at a later point in time if you change your mind and decide to hide your personal information from the public after you’ve already created the semi-dedicated account.
